01 The Friday Synthesis

Fifteen minutes on Friday. Four questions. Your own words.

A free weekly writing practice by email, for the year before, the years during, and the first years after the degree.

The week is over. The assignment is in. The thesis file is still empty, and you cannot say in one sentence what the week taught you.

The Friday Synthesis is fifteen minutes that fixes that. Four questions, every Friday, by email. You write four short paragraphs in your own words and keep them with the date. Nine of them are thesis material. Twenty of them are the answer to "what did the degree change about how you work."

Is this for you

  • You work full time and study at night.
  • Your thesis has a title and nothing under it yet.
  • You use AI for coursework and quietly wonder what you kept.
  • You finished recently and the structure ended at the ceremony.
  • You have a degree ahead of you and want a baseline before it starts.

What arrives on Friday

One email at 07:00 GMT+7. The same four questions, one sentence from my own week, and one request: reply with one line from what you wrote. Any time before Sunday night counts. No course, no lessons, no chasing. Join any Friday.

  1. What happened this week.
  2. What assumption did I make that turned out wrong.
  3. What general principle does this illustrate.
  4. Where would this principle mislead me.

Write it yourself. Do not ask an AI assistant to draft it. The value is in your own words, under real time pressure, about the week you actually lived.

Fifteen minutes is the way in. The full practice is thirty, and the model page explains why. Start with fifteen.

The questions never change. What changes is that Friday comes again, and a short note from my week arrives with it. You are not waiting for new questions. You are keeping an appointment.
